W atching one of your favourite artists perform is one of life’s greatest experiences. Concerts become some of the most cherished memories. With prominent artists however, their tickets sell out not even in hours, or

minutes, but seconds!
Nobody wants to miss out, and when people can’t buy from official booking platforms, they are willing to get their tickets from other places. Soon, they come across people offering to sell the tickets. They get in touch and discuss and payment is done. But then the seller vanishes. The person loses both their money and the opportunity to see a beloved artist live.

How This Can Happen

Whenever a major concert or music festival is announced, tickets tend to sell out quickly. Shortly after this happens, people offer to sell them through different social media platforms, often for a discounted price. They will either put this through a comment on relevant posts or directly message people who may be interested.

The person who wants the ticket discusses the purchase with the supposed seller who requests payment. They promise to send the tickets before the date of the concert. But right after this conversation, the person claiming to sell blocks the one who purchased. There was no concert ticket to begin with.

How To Spot The Red Flags

  1. Rushing to Make an Offer. Ticket scammers take advantage of people’s excitement and fear of missing out and make them offers quickly. They directly say that they will sell the ticket without asking any questions to the potential buyer.
  2. Prices Are Either Very High or Very Low. When a major artist’s concert sells out quickly, people become desperate to buy tickets. Many are willing to spend large amounts as they consider it a major life experience. They often get scammed by people selling it a much higher rate. Other fake sellers sell them at very low prices to tempt those desperate into buying.
  3. Several Screenshots Are Sent. In their attempts to win a person’s trust, fake sellers will send their prospects multiple screenshots to make their deal seem genuine. Many of these screenshots, however, are digitally altered.

How To Buy Concert Tickets Safely

  1. Buy From Official Platforms as Much as Possible. Your first option to buy tickets should always be official platforms like BookMyShow. They are the ones who are authorized to sell tickets to concerts and other events within India.
  2. Verify Any Sellers as Much as You Can. In case tickets have sold out on official platforms and you need to buy second-hand, verify all sellers carefully. Try to find them through family and friends and avoid approaching people on social media. Get all the information you can about them to ensure they are trustworthy.
  3. Make The Transaction In-Person. Once you have verified the seller, always make the ticket transaction face-to-face. Never pay anything beforehand. Make sure you meet them in person and pay them once you have the authentic ticket in your possession.

Watching your favourite artist perform is definitely a dream come true. But as much as possible, try buying the tickets from official sites. If you aren’t able to do so, always exercise caution. Only buy from other people after you have verified their authenticity and if they agree to let you pay them in person for the ticket.
